Items Needed
- Known-Good USB-C Cable
- Working Power Adapter (Wall Charger)
- Soft, Dry Brush or Compressed Air
Troubleshooting Steps
- Check the Power Source: Ensure the wall outlet and power adapter are working correctly. Plug another device into the same charger to confirm the adapter and outlet are supplying power.
- Inspect and Test the USB-C Cable: Carefully examine the charging cable for any signs of damage, like frays or bent connectors. It is highly recommended to try a different USB-C cable that you know works with other devices.
- Clean the Charging Port: Debris or dust can obstruct the connection. Look inside the USB-C port on the Flip 5. Use a soft, dry brush or a can of compressed air to gently clean out any lint or dirt. Do not use metal objects.
- Perform a Hard Reset: A software glitch can sometimes prevent charging. To reset the speaker, press and hold the Play and Volume Up (+) buttons together for about 15-20 seconds. The speaker should turn off. Release the buttons and then try charging again.
- Try a Different Cable Orientation: Although USB-C is reversible, a loose port might make a better connection on one side. Flip the cable connector 180 degrees and plug it back into the speaker.
- Leave it Plugged In: If the battery is completely drained, it might not show signs of life immediately. Connect the speaker to a reliable charger and leave it for at least 2-3 hours to see if the charging indicator lights up.
- Check for Firmware Updates: If you can get the speaker to power on, even briefly, connect it to the JBL Portable app on your phone. A firmware update can sometimes resolve charging-related bugs.
