What You'll Need
- JBL PartyBox 310 Speaker
- Smartphone with the latest JBL Portable App
- Stable Wi-Fi / Internet Connection on your phone
- Speaker connected to AC Power
Troubleshooting Steps
- Connect Speaker to AC Power: Firmware updates are power-intensive. Never attempt an update while the speaker is running on battery. Ensure it is plugged into a working wall outlet.
- Ensure a Stable Connection: Move your smartphone as close to the PartyBox 310 as possible to ensure a strong Bluetooth signal. Also, confirm your phone has a stable and strong Wi-Fi or cellular data connection.
- Restart the JBL Portable App: Fully close the app. On iOS, swipe up from the bottom to access the app switcher and swipe the app away. On Android, use the recent apps button and swipe to close. Re-open the app and try the update again.
- Power Cycle Everything: Turn off your PartyBox 310. Then, restart your smartphone completely. Once your phone has rebooted, turn the speaker back on, allow it to connect, and then attempt the update.
- Clear the App Cache (Android): On Android phones, go to Settings > Apps > find and select 'JBL Portable' > Storage & cache > 'Clear cache'. This removes temporary files that could be causing a conflict.
- Reinstall the JBL Portable App: If other steps fail, a fresh installation can help. Uninstall the JBL Portable app from your phone completely, then download and install the latest version from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Factory Reset the Speaker: This is a last resort, as it will clear your settings. With the speaker on, press and hold the Play and Volume + buttons for more than 10 seconds. The speaker will power off and reboot, indicating the reset is complete. You will need to re-pair it with your phone and try the update process again.
