Repair Steps

  1. Disclaimer: This is an advanced repair that can damage your speaker if done incorrectly. Proceed at your own risk. Professional service is recommended if you are not experienced with electronics repair.
  2. Step 1: Power Off and Disconnect: Unplug the speaker from AC power and ensure it is fully powered down.
  3. Step 2: Remove the Front Grille: Use a plastic pry tool to carefully work around the edges of the front metal grille and release the clips holding it in place. Set it aside.
  4. Step 3: Remove the Top Handle: On the top of the speaker, locate and remove the Torx screws holding the orange retractable handle assembly in place. Lift the handle assembly out.
  5. Step 4: Unscrew the Top Panel: With the handle removed, you will see more screws securing the main top panel. Remove all visible Torx screws around the perimeter of the top panel. Keep them organized.
  6. Step 5: Carefully Lift and Disconnect: Gently lift the top control panel from the speaker's body. DO NOT PULL IT OFF. It is connected to the mainboard by one or more delicate ribbon cables. Identify these cables.
  7. Step 6: Detach the Ribbon Cable(s): The ribbon cables are typically secured by Zero Insertion Force (ZIF) connectors. These have a small black or brown latch. Carefully flip this latch up with a spudger or fingernail to release the cable. Once the latch is up, the ribbon cable should slide out with no force. Disconnect all cables.
  8. Step 7A: For Cleaning Sticky Buttons: With the panel removed, you can now access the underside. Use a cotton swab lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol to carefully clean around the sticky button contacts and the rubber membrane. Let it dry completely before reassembly.
  9. Step 7B: For Replacing the Panel: If you are replacing the entire panel, take your new part. Carefully insert the ribbon cable into the open ZIF connector on the mainboard. Ensure it is straight and fully inserted, then press the latch down to secure it.
  10. Step 8: Reassemble and Test: Reassemble the speaker by following the steps in reverse order. First, secure the top panel with its screws. Re-install the handle. Before putting the front grille back on, power on the speaker and test every single button and knob on the control panel to ensure they function correctly.
  11. Step 9: Final Reassembly: Once you've confirmed everything works, power the speaker off. Align the front grille with the clips and press it firmly back into place until it snaps in all around.

Control Panel FAQs

Why are some of my buttons not responding?

This is often caused by dirt, debris, or liquid residue getting under the button membrane, preventing a good electrical contact. In other cases, a liquid spill may have caused corrosion or a short circuit, requiring a full panel replacement.

Something was spilled on the control panel. What should I do first?

Immediately power off and unplug the speaker. Use a cloth to absorb as much liquid as possible from the surface. Do not turn it back on. Let it dry for at least 48 hours. If buttons are sticky or unresponsive after drying, you will need to follow this guide to clean or replace the panel.

Can I just replace one broken button instead of the whole panel?

No, the buttons are typically part of an integrated flexible circuit board and rubber membrane. It is not possible to replace a single button; the entire control panel assembly must be replaced as one unit.

The ribbon cable won't go back into the connector. What should I do?

Do not force it. Ensure the ZIF connector latch is fully open (flipped up). The cable should slide in with almost no resistance. If the end of the cable is bent or damaged, it may be very difficult to re-insert, and you may need professional help to avoid damaging the mainboard connector.

Where do I get a genuine replacement control panel for my PartyBox 310?

To ensure compatibility and quality, you should source the part from an official JBL parts supplier or an authorized service center. Using non-genuine parts can lead to functionality issues.
